Maryland student, 14, survives attempted shooting by 3 teens on school bus after gun malfunctions

HILLCREST HEIGHTS, MARYLAND: Three youngsters boarded a Maryland school bus intending to shoot and kill a 14-year-old boy in what seemed like a targeted attack. They got onto the bus in Prince George’s County, on Monday afternoon, May 1, when their intended victim was last to board. Fortunately, their gun malfunctioned while they tried to shoot him in the chest at point-blank range.

After failing to shoot the boy, the unidentified assailants assaulted and ‘pistol whipped’ him with the handgun, reports Fox 5. It is said that the bus surveillance camera recorded the entire incident, but authorities have only released still images. The investigators involved in the case found three live rounds on the floor of the bus. “This was an attempted murder, plain and simple. Call it what it is. They pulled the trigger three times, but for some reason, by the grace of God, the gun didn’t go off and bullets flew out of the gun,” said Martin Diggs, head of the local bus drivers' union to ABC7.

'You are cowards'

The victim’s mother reacted to the alleged targeted attack on his son, "They tried to kill my son three times and they failed. And you know what I would say to them? You are cowards, You're gonna forever be a coward. You're not gonna have any good luck. And you will get caught." There is no update on the victim’s injuries or the reason behind the attack, reports the Daily Mail.

'Grateful that no lives were lost'

Prince George’s County Public Schools released a statement, "We are horrified by this incident and grateful that no lives were lost. Our highest priority is keeping students, staff, and families safe inside Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) classrooms, on school grounds, and on school buses. We will continue working with our law enforcement partners during this investigation to ensure safety for all members of the PGCPS community." All three suspects are anticipated to be juveniles.
